Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a condition in which the body deposits calcium in the spinal canal.  This calcium narrows the canal and impinges on the nerves.

Allopathic surgery involves removing the lamina of the vertebrae to make a path into the canal and scraping away the calcium.  This procedure creates more room for the nerve, but can allow discs to bulge into the void.

What caused your body to deposit the calcium in the first place?  The formation of the calcium deposits is usually the result of friction caused by musculoskeletal misalignment.  The body has to react to friction in the spine to protect vital components.  The body’s mechanism of putting an extra blob of calcium to protect against the friction interferes with the movement of the vertebrae.

If your hip joints are misaligned then so is your pelvis.  And if your pelvis is misaligned and your hip joints are either too loose or too tight, or both, your spinal vertebra will experience friction.  Your body will respond to the friction by sending fluid which will result in arthritis, or calcium, resulting in stenosis.

Egoscue-certified posture therapy treats stenosis without surgery, drugs, or manipulation.  Muscles are holding the misalignments, and muscles can be re-educated to restore proper alignment.  (Read more about proper alignment).  If the lumbar, thoracic, and cervical curves are restored to a functional state, the spinal cord and branching nerve roots usually have enough room to operate, even with the extra calcium.  Read more about Egoscue certified posture therapy.

If you have had a laminectomy and are experiencing difficulty or bulging discs, you still must re-align your musculoskeletal system.  The laminectomy doesn’t correct the misalignments that caused the stenosis, and doesn’t prevent recurrence.
